Allergen: A substance capable of causing an allergic reaction in some people.

Carcinogen: A substance that can cause cancer.

Contact dermatitis: Skin inflammation caused by direct contact with a particular substance.

Endocrine disruptor: An exogenous substance or mixture that alters the functions of the endocrine system and induces harmful effects on the health of one or more organs. 

Mutagen: An agent/substance that changes the genome (usually DNA) of an organism.

Nephrotoxic: Substance that has a toxic effect on the kidney.

Neurotoxic: A substance that has a toxic effect on the nervous system.

Photosensitizer: A substance that can cause a skin reaction upon exposure to light.

Sensitizer: A substance that can cause a skin or respiratory reaction in a sensitized person.

Toxic: A substance that is harmful to an organism and may be responsible for the development of a disease.
